Dean & Flo go Big in Japan

Folklore’s very own Dean Permana won the men's longboarding title at the REnext Asian Surfing Tour in Makinohara earlier this month.

The conditions were mellow with 1-2ft waves – which meant Dean was never going to get barrelled like he had in the Bali leg of the tour – nevertheless,

Dean toed his way to the win and landed one of the highest wave scores of the comp (8.33) in the semifinal.

I never expected to do so well in the competition
but I had some really good waves and was stoked to win!

Here comes the Flo

Our other Folklore ambassador Flora Christin scored some stunning rides but was knocked out by tough competition from surfers like Daisy Valdez (who won the women’s longboard division) and Monica Guo.

“I'm pretty happy and pretty stoked to be here, I have learned a lot and seen a lot in the comp,” said Flo. “It’s one of the biggest things I’ve done in my career and I cannot wait for the next stop of the tour.”

In the other divisions of the competition, Minami Nonaka won the women’s shortboard title and Cooga Harada took the men’s shortboard win.

The next leg of the REnextop Asian Surfing Tour will be held in December in the Philippines and the final comp will be on Hainan Island in China in January 2018.
